HOME
Welcome to the Sanctuary of Medionemeton, a small, but growing place of peace in the chaos that is the online Pagan community in Scotland and the rest of the world.
Our intentions are twofold. Firstly, to provide resources of interest that are rare or otherwise unavailable on the Pagan Internet, and secondly, to provide information on specific events and organisations based in Scotland.
If you would like to make a contribution to the site, please email your contributions to us here at Medionemeton on medionemeton@blueyonder.co.uk. If you intend to send an essay or something which involves a lot of work, please email us with some details first to ensure we will be able to use it, before sending us the whole article. Feel free to send details of moots, conferences, and any workshops which might interest the Pagan community. Please note that this site is still under development, with pages still under development.
WHY MEDIONEMETON?
Medionemeton is a Brythonic name meaning "Middle Sacred Place", and is an ancient site whose precise location is still hotly debated, but which supposedly lurks somewhere in southern Scotland.
Like the real Medionemeton, this site is hoped to become a place of peace and learning for the many wanderers of the Pagan paths who roam the modern equivalent of the ancient trackways: the so-called "information superhighway". It is the Middle Sacred Place because it is balanced somewhere between the tackiness and tat of the mass-market, but is not as overpowering as the academic end of the spectrum. It is a place to rest, to take stock, and to rebalance one's thoughts before heading out once more into the wilderness.
RITES OF PASSAGE
The rites of passage page is a source for those looking for information or assistance relating to Pagan Rites of Passage. Whether you are looking for a celebrant for your Handfasting or marriage, a baby's naming ceremony, coming-of-age celebration, or a funeral ceremony, or if you just want a few hints of the type of things you can include in a Rite of Passage, you can find some interesting and useful information here.
MOOTS
The moots section is intended to guide the visitor who is perhaps new on the Pagan pathways, or to the area, to a source of likeminded fellow travellers. Moots are social gatherings, sometimes with talks or workshops, often held in pubs or coffeeshops, and are a good way to meet fellow Pagans and get into a good debate over Pagan issues. Some moots also organise trips to sacred sites, picnics, environmental cleanups or other special events. If you run your own moot and would like it announced here, please email us with the details, and remember to update us on any changes.
GROUPS AND ORGANISATIONS
The groups and organisations section is designed to introduce you to some of the more active organisations in Scotland. Some of these are member organisations, some are information hubs, and others provide either training or a service you might occasionally find it useful to know about. If your group or organisation is not yet up there, please email us with a summary of the group's activities.
EVENTS
The events section hopes to announce as many events going on in Scotland as possible. If you are planning an event and would like it announced here, please email us with the details. If your event is cancelled, please let us know as soon as possible.
BOOKS
The books section is dedicated to bringing you brief reviews of some of the best Pagan books available. We have spent many years looking for the best of Pagan writing, so there are certain authors you won't find in our pages - namely those who churn titles out by the dozen in fuzzy, twinkly covers. We hope you'll find something of interest - we've a range from the academic to the practical (both under development), on a wide range of related subjects, and including some good fiction and books for children. Of course, we welcome your own reviews too, so if you've read a book that you'd love to rave about, please email us.
MUSIC
The Medionemeton music pages are devoted to the best and widest possible range of Pagan and Pagan-influenced music. Although it is becoming easier to find Pagan music, we would still appreciate it if you point us in the direction of other musicians we've not yet heard of. So if your favourite band isn't mentioned, email us and let us know where to find them.
