ORGANISATIONS
This section is devoted to publicising the work of various Pagan organisations and groups that are active in Scotland at the present time. If your group is not listed, please email the editor at medionemeton@blueyonder.co.uk with a brief summary of what the group is all about.
The Pagan Federation (Scotland) (please note the new website address - the old site www.paganfed.vscotland.org.uk is now defunct) is one of the best known and most highly respected Pagan organisations working in Scotland today. The Pagan Federation (Scotland) is a federated part of The Pagan Federation, and recent developments mean that there are now a wider range of membership options available for those resident in Scotland.
"With the support of our members, over the past few years PF Scotland has:
Defended Pagans against attacks from sections of the media and sought to improve the balance and accuracy of their coverage of matters relating to Paganism.
Following the refusal of the government to carry out a detailed analysis of the religious responses in the 2001 Census, Scottish PF lobbied ministers, petitioned parliament, and finally raised £2000 to have the information on the numbers of Pagans and other minority religious groups extracted and freely circulated.
We have been working with the civic inter faith movement since 1994 to win respect and recognition for Pagans within our multi-faith society, and to improve relations between Pagans and other religious groups.
Scottish PF provides Hospital Visitors on request and provides information on dealing with Pagan patients and clients to the Health and Social Care services.
We can also provide expert guidance in legal cases where attempts are made to present an accused person's Pagan religion in a sinister light."
PF (Scotland) also provides a range of other services. It maintains a register to assist those seeking reputable Pagan Celebrants to officiate at namings, handfastings, funerals and other rites of passage. Most of these celebrants are also able to perform legal religious marriage ceremonies. Scottish PF also organises a very popular annual national Conference to bring Pagans of all paths together to celebrate the diversity and vitality of our community. Scottish PF publishes a newsletter - SPIN - for members in Scotland and helps to publicise the growing number of moots and other Pagan events in this country. It helps members to meet like-minded people through a system of local contact lists, and provides basic information on Paganism and suggestions for further study to inquirers.
For further information contact the PF Scotland District Manager on enquiries@scottishpf.org.
Caer Clud is an open Druid group in Glasgow. We welcome anyone who is interested in Druidry. We usually meet on the third Sunday of the month, most of the meetings are moots held in a pub in the centre of Glasgow with talks and social chat. In the summer months we try and organise at least one trip or visit to a place of interest and four of the meetings are rituals at the Solstice and Equinox points. Where possible we do prefer to meet folk at least once before they join us in ritual but exceptions are made so if you want to join us please get in touch. Several of our members follow other paths such as Wicca and Heathenry so you don't have to be interested in following a Druid path to join us, but it helps."
Witchvox, otherwise known as the Witches' Voice, offers a wide range of services to Pagans of all sorts. This online community is very active in Scotland, and is a useful and easily-accessible resource for up-to-date news items, online shopping, introductions, and a huge range of essays and other items about Paganism today.
LifeRites provided training for celebrants through a well-respected course which covered all aspects of celebrancy, from writing a wedding ceremony to organising a funeral. Unfortunately, LifeRites has recently been retired - thanks to Cheryl for many years of service to the community, and to those LifeRites-trained celebrants still working hard out there.
